About

Värmland of Scandinavia is a collaboration between Karlstad Airport, Region Värmland, The European Union and a generous amount of private companies related to the tourism industry in Värmland (hotels, tour-, adventure-, activity-, fishing- and hunting-companies, etc.).

Our purpose is to establish a stronger connection between Great Britain and Värmland, Sweden, due to a growing demand from a British target audience looking for great outdoors experiences and Scandinavian hospitality.

Värmland of Scandinavia is the first major investment specifically towards this audience. Some of our sub targets are to strengthen the airline connections between Karlstad and London, to produce tourism information and to package specific offers, including air travel, during British bank holidays.

Culture

Did you know that the first woman writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature was from Värmland? Her name was Selma Lagerlöf and she won in 1909, for “the lofty idealism, vivid imagination and spiritual perception that characterize her writings”. Her family home in Mårbacka is still one of our greatest cultural attractions, but you’ll find many more.

Here you’ll encounter legends, myths, fairy tales and fables, told and re-told during the course of history. We are considered to be a cheerful people, full of charm and wit. And you’d be out of luck trying to find a person born and raised in Värmland who couldn’t tell you at least one tale from their local area. One could even argue that our famous writers are just people who bothered to write our stories down.

Ever since the early 20′s has the raw material flax and its refinement directed the Johansson family in Klässbol. Their determination and humble belief in quality, their balance between old handicraft and
new techniques, their beliefs in what they are doing and that it is the right thing, has spun threads far longer than to the border of Sweden. Napkins and tablecloths from the little village in Värmland have for several years been used at the prestigious Nobel feast. Swedish as well as Norwegian embassies worldwide choose products from Klässbols. They are purveyors to HM the King of Sweden, they have been given the

The Giants

Beware of the natural enemy of the gods from Norse mythology.

FootprintThe Giants are nature spirits, standing twice as tall as full grown men and possessing super human strength. Said to eat humans, you’d better run if you find yourself standing eye to eye with a Giant astray from his darker world. Not that it will do you much good.
